Anne Munz—Founder of Byte of BlissTM, Daughter, Mom, Future Wife, Avid Supporter of Women, Diversity, Unity, & Inclusion.
Anne has over 24 years of experience in technical leadership roles. Ever since her days as a high school student, Anne has had a penchant for leadership. Be it Section Leader of the Pit in the marching band to starting a Kiwanis Key Club chapter at her high school where she served as the first President. She is proud to be a graduate of the Erie Public School District. Anne credits who she is today to the rigorous college-level academics and amazing educators, as well as the diverse enrichment and leadership opportunities she had in high school.
An interest in engineering started early for Anne as her father exposed her to the “wonderment” of GE Transportation (where he worked) and numerous engineering expos over the years. She was always captivated by GET’s large freight locomotives and off-highway vehicles. It is no wonder that she went into engineering, and then later to work for GE Transportation, directly.
Anne earned a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from Gannon University, a Bachelors of Arts (BA) in English from Mercyhurst University, and a Masters of Science in Project Management (MSPM) from Boston University. These degrees did not occur in succession. In between each collegiate experience, you will find many interesting and non-traditional adventures.
Along her journey, nothing stopped her from pursuing historically non-female subject areas or roles. She was the only female in her high school drafting classes. She was the only female in her class pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering at Gannon University. She was the first female Technical Director to work for GE Transportation embedded at a particular railroad customer site in a Field Services “Maintenance and Backshop Facility.” Notably, one of a handful of women working in all of Field Services embedded at a customer site in the early 2000s.
However, her journey was far from perfect. While she did encounter many victories and high point, it was packed with moments of personal strife, tears, low points, and character building moments. It took Anne years of self-reflection–coupled with support from trusted friends, mentors, and advisors–to dust herself off during the low times, and continue on her journey. Amazingly, Anne always seemed to emerge stronger and ever-committed to self-reflection and personal improvement. She strongly believes that sometimes all you need is reassurance that you are not alone; along with a good dose of unvarnished insight from a trusted peer.
Today, she is a Senior Manager in IT (focused on Services & Customer Experience Strategic Initiatives) for Wabtec Corporation, a Fortune 500 company. She has had the pure joy of simultaneously leading multiple medium sized teams handling operational support and new development for a diverse portfolio of IT applications used internally & externally by the business.
However, by night (after she & her fiance put their eight year old son to bed) she works on her “side hustle,” Byte of BlissTM. She is striving to share the message of the #BalancedSelf & the importance of #WomenSupportingWomen.
