Origins & Symbolism of Our name | Byte of BlissTM
The origins of our name, Byte of BlissTM, are best explained by starting with the basic definitions of the words “byte” and “bliss.”
Byte is defined as: a unit of digital information consisting of 8 bits.
A bit is a basic unit of information in digital communication and computing. Therefore, a byte represents a small portion of data present in a technical communication.
Bliss is defined as: supreme happiness; utter joy or contentment.
In Buddhism, sugatagarbha is considered a high state, something very distant & unapproachable. In breaking down this word, sugata means “those gone to bliss” with the syllable su meaning “bliss.” If one recognizes the nature of their mind, they eliminate the suffering of samsara: the result of realizing the mind’s nature is bliss. Gata, or “gone,” means that one has achieved enlightenment through the realization as to the nature of their mind; thereby, attaining the bliss of full awakening. [link to source]
Ultimately, for Byte of BlissTM, the merging of the modern technical word “byte” with the Old English word “bliss” is a symbolic tie between modern conceptualizations and historic philosophies & religious practices. Given the belief that history repeats itself, it only seems logical to pull from the discoveries, theories, and philosophies of our ancestors.
Part of our planetary purpose, as humans, is to find & foster happiness as we pursue a purposeful existence. However, this is a gigantic task requiring us to break this life challenge down into smaller, achievable bits. Only then are complex tasks able to be tackled successfully. When we “byte off more than we can chew,” it is easy to become overwhelmed. Needing to break things down does not mean that one is incompetent. There is value in taking things one step at a time, leaving the overwhelm behind us.
Furthermore, sometimes all it takes is a little bit, nudge, nibble, reminder, or dose of positivity to propel us to wherever we have set our sights. Byte of BlissTM was intended to be just that, little doses or bits of bliss that make a collectively big impact on the lives of the women who cross our path.
